About

What is the Style Economist?
Style Economist is my creative outlet where I can post things about clothes, fashion and other musings. It's a blog made by a student who simply wants to engage with the growing online community. Rather than constantly showcase luxury brands, Style Economist attempts to look for clothes that are economically viable for most people, just like an economist should do - maximize people's utility given their limited budgets :) Although I will sometimes look into designer clothing for inspiration, I'm always on the lookout for something that is stylish but also affordable.

Who is the author?
I'm Jay and I live in England. I study Economics and am going to start my final year very soon. Hence the blog's name 'Style Economist'. I am 20 years old and am not very tall so finding well fitted clothes can be a pain, I mostly wear size S or XS in things and I have never owned a perfectly fitted pair of jeans! Just gotta live with it I suppose. I love frozen yoghurt and food in general, lunch is probably my favourite meal time of the day.

Whenever I ask people what kind of music they like, they nearly always reply 'Oh a bit of everything'. What a blatant lie! Everybody listens to some type of music more than they listen to other types. I think they're just afraid of being judged on their music tastes lol. Personally, I like pop music and hip hop but I do enjoy more mellow indie kind of things as well as dance/house. My favourite artists are Kanye West, Lana Del Rey, The Weeknd, The XX and Rihanna.

I constantly check out online shopping sites and read a few blogs and vlogs every so often. I enjoy reading people's about sections and just having a bit of a nosy on what sort of clothes they like. Most of the time I don't really follow/emulate what others are wearing, its more about what I personally like and if some new trend conveniently overlaps with my taste then I will buy it. I never buy something just because most of the young, trendy teens have it and I respect others who have their own sense of style. I think you should try your very best to find your own style which off course can be hard to do if you have a small budget. But together we shall endeavour!

I hope you enjoy your visit here!

  1. Hey, I couldn't find an email address so thought I'd post here. I'm from Urban Village (vintage shop in Birmingham) and am looking for a male stylist to come down to the shop and have a rummage through our collection of vintage clothes and put together a few looks around some 'vintage theme's - if it's something you'd be interested in take a look at the website (urban-village.co.uk) and drop me a line on: info@urban-village.co.uk and I'll send you some more info over! Cheers, Hanna
